Porta Sole Panoramic View |
Perched on the hills, Perugia is a generous dispenser of breathtaking views. Hidden behind the arches or airy and open onto open spaces and urban clearings, there are many points where you can admire fantastic sunsets and valleys. Of all the viewpoints, we offer seven, the ones that excite us the most.
Via delle Prome - Porta Sole: a street that is part of a real urban trekking route. The effort to climb Via delle Prome, the highest point of the city, is fully rewarded by the spectacular view that can be admired, dominating all of Perugia. From the beautiful staircase it is easy to immediately notice Borgo Sant'Antonio and Borgo Sant'Angelo, and then gradually the other districts.
Viale Indipendenza: in the heart of the acropolis, a few steps from Piazza Italia, the provincial and regional buildings and the Carducci Gardens. Going along this road will be really worth it: it is, in fact, easy to recognize a beautiful terrace that overlooks Assisi, dominating the whole area of Corso Cavour. Closer to the field of view, the splendid bell tower of San Pietro and the church of San Domenico. An unforgettable skyline of bell towers with a truly ancient flavour.
Carducci Gardens: moving from the terrace of Viale Indipendenza to the Carducci Gardens really takes a moment, but the perspective on the valleys changes gradually. To the left you leave Assisi and Corso Cavour, and the view also opens up to the complex of Santa Giuliana. The flower beds and benches offer shade and relaxation... and that pinch of romance that makes a sunset unforgettable.
Terrace of Mercato Coperto (Perugia Covered Market): passing under the arch that divides this terrace from the confusion of Corso Vannucci and Piazza Matteotti is like going through a magic door. Suddenly, a sense of stillness and peace embraces the air. In front, an imposing expanse of valleys, small villages and mountains, among which Mount Subasio stands out. Magnificent in the winter months, when the mountains are often covered in snow, unmissable in the summer, when the constant breeze refreshes the heat.
Via della Canapina: a small side street going down Via dei Priori, just above the gardens of the same name. The terrace that you will find is more of a widening on the road, but before taking the steps that go down via Pellini, it is a must to stop and take a photo: the Etruscan walls and the background of the valleys are a point of view that absolutely deserves to be immortalized. Particularly beautiful in spring, with wild plants all in bloom.
Sciri Tower: always remaining along Via dei Priori, the Torre degli Sciri offers a show with a medieval flavour. Recently renovated, it is publicly accessible, but only if you dare to climb 46 meters high! Towering over all the buildings in the historic centre, however, is a satisfaction that is worth all the stairs to climb.
Cassero di Porta Sant'Angelo - Tower: located at the top of Corso Garibaldi, it is one of the few towers left intact in Perugia. On the clearest days it is possible to look out from its terrace, and be literally enchanted by the panorama. And if the Cassero is closed or not accessible, it is always possible to take a stroll in Sant'Angelo park, just behind the tower: the valleys facing towards via del Bulagaio and the Monteluce district are in any case not to be missed.
